THE REQUIREMENTS
The European Union issued the EU Whistleblower Directive with the aim of preventing or identifying legal violations and guaranteeing an EU-wide standard governing the protection of whistleblowers.
Effective as of December 17, 2021, compliance with this directive has been mandatory for companies with 50 or more employees, public institutions, authorities and municipalities with 10,000 or more inhabitants.
THE DUTIES
Your company has to create channels for reporting legal violations and must inform employees about these options. Employees must be able to submit reports in writing, by telephone or in person. An online portal alone is insufficient. Furthermore, confidentiality and anonymity also have to be guaranteed.
